Rotimi Akeredolu, a former governor of Ondo State, has had his remains brought to the state in preparation for his burial and funeral services.

Akeredolu lost his fight with prostate cancer in December 2023 in Germany.

On Wednesday, the traditional Ajabue rite began the burial ceremonies for the late Akeredolu in his birthplace of Owo, which is the capital of the Owo Local Government Area in the state.

On the same day, Court 1 of the Ondo State High Court will have a Special Court Session to honor him.

An Evening of Tributes will be held at Saint Andrews Church in Owo, and a Lying in State and Commendation Service will be held at the Akure Township Stadium at 1:00 pm.

On Thursday, February 22 (public holiday), at 4:00 pm, there will be a Service of Songs in St. Andrews Cathedral, Imola Street, Owo, as per the funeral program.

At 8:00 p.m., there will be a wake at Maranatha Villa in Owo.

From eight in the evening till the break of dawn, the Kegites Club will hold their Candlelight Procession and World Gyration.

The funeral service will be held in St. Andrews Church, Imola Street, Owo, Nigeria, on Friday, February 23, a public holiday, at 10 a.m.

“Restaurant and reception will be held at Mydas Hotel and Resort, Ikare Road, Owo, by 1:00 pm. Interment will follow the burial service at the burial site, Owo, which is solely for immediate relatives.

“Akure Township Stadium, Akure, Ohio, USA, will host the 2024 Akeredolu Memorial Friendly Football Match on Saturday, February 24th. Meet at 3 o’clock.

The Thanksgiving Service will be held at St. Andrews Church on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at 10:00 am. The church is located on Imola Street in Owo.
