England midfielder Lauren James says she wants to build a name for herself at the World Cup this summer rather than being known as “Reece James’ sister.”
The Chelsea star, 21, plays for the same club as her older brother, who is also an England international, and her name is frequently associated with his.
“Even just ‘that’s Lauren James, Reece’s sister,'” she explained.
“However, I would like to carve out [my own name] and be known as ‘this is Lauren James.'”
James went on to say:
“At the moment, men’s football has a much higher profile, and I’m sure there have been times when I’ve said, ‘oh, that’s so and so’s sister,’ but I think it’s natural.”
“But it doesn’t bother me too much because I know I have my own career.”
