Former Liverpool winger Jermain Pennant has questioned Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq’s choice to offer Reds captain Jordan Henderson a lucrative contract.
Steven Gerrard, the new manager of Al-Ettifaq and another ex-Liverpool player, has made Henderson his main priority this summer.
Despite having two years left on his current deal at Anfield, Henderson is rumoured to have accepted a move to the Middle East.
According to reports in England, Henderson has been promised £700,000 a week. Meanwhile, Liverpool are rumoured to be asking a sum of £20 million to sign the 33-year-old.
However, Pennant stated on talkSPORT, “It’s ridiculous! Not Messi, but Jordan Henderson! Tell me about a game in which Henderson achieved anything noteworthy.”
Under Jurgen Klopp, goals and assists have not been Henderson’s strong point. In 304 appearances under the German tactician, he has only 13 goals and 29 assists.
