Some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State have requested that the state’s deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, be given the authority to function as governor hours after President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the political turmoil shaking the state.

Ondo APC Progressives Stakeholders, a group of APC chieftains, met in Akure over the weekend to demand that Aiyedatiwa be appointed as Acting Governor so that the state’s political impasse may be resolved in accordance with the constitution.

The status quo, as advocated for by Tinubu, would see Aiyedatiwa remain in her position as deputy governor.

After a meeting in Akure, members of the Ondo APC voiced worries that Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s absence has had a negative impact on the state’s economy and administration.

After the meeting, the Chairman, a former member of the House of Representatives named Hon. Afe Olowookere, and the Secretary, a former APC Secretary in the state named Hon. Raman Rotimi, issued a statement stressing the need for the House of Assembly to authorize Aiyedatiwa to assume the responsibilities of the acting governor.

“APC party members should be permitted to participate and determine those to be appointed or elected into political and party offices.

“The party’s elders and leaders should be honored and given a prominent place inside the party, not ignored and shunned.

“The system of writing the names of party executives and candidates without due process will be objected to and resisted with all political and legal means possible,” the statement read.
