For this Saturday’s governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. Kayode Egbetokun has assigned three Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) to manage security.

This was announced on Tuesday in Abuja by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the force’s public relations officer.

His list of DIGs included Imo’s Frank Mba, Kogi’s Habu Sani, and Bayelsa’s Daniel Sokari-Pedro.

Adejobi said sending in the top cops was in keeping with the force’s promise to remain politically neutral and increase its ability to keep an eye on election workers.

He explained that the goal was to ensure that the election is transparent and credible by adding another level of oversight to the security arrangement.

The police department’s spokesman assured the public that sufficient resources and personnel had been put in place prior to the election.

Adejobi said that the IGP has banned all vehicle traffic on roads, rivers, and other modes of transit in the affected states from 12:01 am to 6:00 pm on November 11.

“Those on essential services such as INEC Officials, Accredited Electoral Observers, Ambulances responding to medical emergencies, firefighters, and others on election duty are exempted from the restriction,” he stated.
