Barcelona’s new acquisition Ilkay Gundogan feels he still has “a lot to prove” after being unveiled at Barcelona after joining from Manchester City.
The 32-year-old German midfielder captained City to the Premier League title last season, scoring 11 goals in 51 games.

He joined Barcelona on a free transfer and has signed a two-year contract.

“Even though I’m older, I’m prepared for the challenge, and I still have a lot to prove,” Gundogan added.
On Monday, Gundogan was introduced at Barcelona’s training facilities. He will now be coached by Xavi, who played under City manager Pep Guardiola at Barcelona from 2008 to 2012, winning the Spanish treble in 2009.

“The style is very similar to what I played at City,” remarked Gundogan.

“Guardiola and Xavi have a lot in common.” From the first time we spoke, I felt a connection with Xavi. When I chatted with him, I felt Barcelona was on the right course.

“It’s an incredible team, and it’s an incredible opportunity to play in a different league and in a different country.”

“We intend to compete for the Champions League title.” It is a privilege to wear this shirt, and I will do all in my power to win as many titles as possible.”
