In just one month, the Ondo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has detained 243 drivers who were operating vehicles without a valid license.

This was announced by Mr. Ezekiel SonAllah, State Sector Commander of FRSC, during a one-day mega rally that the FRSC organized to educate drivers before to the state’s Eid Kabir celebration.

The goal, according to SonAllah, who claimed that the arrest was made through the special patrol launched in May, was to completely eliminate traffic accidents in the region.

Therefore, the sector commander urged drivers to always confirm their cars’ eligibility before starting any travel, stating that it had become imperative for drivers to avoid anything that would result in crashes on highways.

SonAllah, who urged drivers to view themselves as specialists in their chosen vocation, claimed that drivers are equally qualified to be cautious when working as pilots or ship captains.

He asserted that in order to prevent accidents, “we are now in the rainy season, so we must have functional wipers, light system, and standard tyres.

“Please, don’t manage your life because many people are looking and waiting to celebrate the Sallah with you as the family’s primary provider, and remember that only the living can celebrate.”Furthermore, the only legal document that enables you to drive is a drivers license.

“Some drivers will claim they have been driving for years and are experts, but if you break traffic laws, you are not an expert.

We won’t let you drive on our roads without a drivers’ license, therefore if you really must drive to survive, you must obtain a license. To guarantee that life is safe in Ondo State, all hands must be on deck, he said.
Ondo State’s Park Management Committee (PMC) Chairman, Mr. Jacob Adebo, thanked the FRSC for organizing the program and said that it would greatly benefit motorists, particularly commercial truckers.

Adebo warned drivers to always double check passengers’ luggage before starting any travel during the festival period. He explained that he constituted PMC task team in the state to arrest any motorist breaking road traffic rules.

“Avoid drinking and driving. On the highways, respect FRSC officers and other security personnel; they aren’t there to victimize you; rather, they’re there to keep you safe from unfortunate events.

“And our task force is everywhere within the state to support the FRSC and will be arresting any erring driver,” he added.
