Nwogu Iheanacho’s election as the Young Progressive Party (YPP) lawmaker for Abia State’s Osisioma Ngwa North seat was affirmed by a three-judge bench of the Lagos-based Court of Appeal.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Kennedy Njoku, had his appeal rejected by the court because it was unfounded.
Earlier, Iheanacho had his case dismissed by the State House of Assembly election petition panel that was sitting in Umuahia.
However, Kennedy Njoku, a candidate for the People’s Democratic Party, went to the Appeal Court to ask, among other things, that the election that produced the YPP lawmaker not be in compliance with the Electoral Act.
But in rendering its verdict, the petition Court found that the PDP candidate’s petition was without substance and rejected it.
Isiala Ngwa South’s validly elected representative in the Abia State House of Assembly, Mr. Rowland Chinwendu, has had his victory validated by the Lagos-based Appeal Court.
The Labour Party’s candidate in the March 18 House of Assembly elections, Mr. Dannie Ubani, had his appeal rejected by the Appeal Court.
Because the LP candidate could not provide evidence that Chinwendu’s election violated the Electoral Act, the court found that his appeals were without merit.
