The Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Pst. Umo Eno, was proclaimed the winner of the 2023 governorship election in Akwa Ibom State by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Saturday, March 18.

The State Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Delta State, Prof Emmanuel Adigio, declared the results at the INEC headquarters in Uyo on Sunday, saying the PDP candidate received 356,346 votes to defeat his opponents from the Young Progressive Party and the All Progressives Congress, who received 136,262 and 129,602 votes, respectively.

The New Nigeria Peoples Party came in second with 125,09 votes, followed by the Labour Party with 4,746 votes and others in that order.

“It would be inappropriate for me to sign the results sheets because there was widespread violence and intimidation.”

While commending INEC for the improvements seen in the Saturday polls, the PDP agent, Engr. Uwem Okoko, also congratulated Akwa Ibom people for voting for the PDP in the state.
