Tottenham are closing in on a £40 million deal for Leicester midfielder James Maddison.
Maddison, 26, who has three England matches and helped Leicester City win the FA Cup in 2021, is due to have a medical at Spurs on Wednesday.

Since joining Leicester from Norwich in 2018 for a cost of about £20 million, he has made 203 appearances.

Maddison scored 10 Premier League goals last season but couldn’t keep the club from relegation.

He scored 55 goals and made 41 assists for Leicester City, and his creativity will be a welcome addition to a Spurs club that has been without a playmaker since Christian Eriksen’s departure in 2020.

Newcastle have previously attempted to recruit Maddison, but look to have shifted their focus this summer to AC Milan’s Sandro Tonali.
