The list of candidates for the governorship election in Bayelsa State, which will take place this coming Saturday, has been updated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

After a court injunction caused his name to be removed from the original list, electoral umpire Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was reinstated in the updated list.

This information was released on INEC’s website on Monday, and it was signed off by Rose Oriaran-Anthony, who serves as the Commission’s secretary.

According to Oriaran-Anthony, the re-addition of Sylva and his ruining partner Joshua Maciver to the list in “Amendment No 2” was done in accordance with the ruling of the Court of Appeal.

In compliance with a Federal High Court’s decision, DAILY POST reports that INEC removed Sylva and his running mate’s names off the amended list it posted to its website on Tuesday, October 24.

Oriaran-Anthony mentioned that on October 16, an adjustment was made to the final list of candidates for the 2023 Bayelsa Governorship Election.

She claims this is required under the Federal High Court’s ruling in Case No. FHC/ABJ/CS/821/2023, which concerns the APC candidate’s nomination.

According to Oriaran-Anthony, “the judgment of the lower court cited above was reversed by the Court of Appeal in its judgment delivered on October 31, 2023 in appeal No-CA/ABJ/CV/1060/2023.”

The APC candidate and his running mate have their names reinstated thanks to the decision of the Appeal Court.
