In its Friday statement, the Ondo Elite Group emphasized the seriousness of the impending governorship election on November 16 and cautioned against any attempt to manipulate the state’s political system.

Members of the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are allegedly plotting to depose the existing party leadership and install their own candidate in the next election, according to the sociopolitical group. This has led to a steady buildup of tension inside the chapter.

In a statement issued by General Secretary Yemi Oladiran, the group voiced its concern over the incident and encouraged the incoming governor of the state, Lucky Ayedatiwa, to prioritize unity and inclusivity among party stakeholders.

The organization, which warned against meddling in party internal matters, emphasized that the plotters who wanted to dissolve the APC administration didn’t have the authority to do it.

Oladiran claims that doing so would do more than just cause strife within the party; it would also hurt its prospects of winning the upcoming governorship race.

He insisted that the party must not let Ondo State suffer the same fate as Zamfara, where it lost the previous general election.

Additionally, the group cautioned against inventing an unnecessary crisis and urged the state governor to bring party unity so that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) could retain the state in the upcoming elections.

“The agreement that Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa signed with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the crisis that engulfed the state over the friction between Ayedatiwa and the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu will be nullified by dissolving the state executive of the party,” the statement says in part.

Our guiding principle is the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which ensures that we adhere to the rules of the game and prevents a recurrence of the events in Zamfara, which we will not tolerate in Ondo State.

No one can stop a development train going at the rate we’re experiencing in Ondo. We should enter this election as a united front, and the Ondo APC executive members and the administration have a friendly agreement.

The state chairman, Ade Adetimehin, has been an inspiration to us all. Since assuming the role of party chairman, he has successfully brought stability to the organization.
