The decision by the Appeal Court to uphold the election of Siminalayi Fubara as Governor of Rivers State has been applauded by a coalition of one hundred pro-democracy parties.

In a unanimous verdict on Tuesday, the court affirmed the Rivers State Governorship Election Tribunal’s decision to reject the governor’s four appeals, as previously reported by DAILY POST.

Members of the Accord Party, Tonye Briggs Dumo, Beatrice Itubo, Innocent Ekwu, and Tonye Cole of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had all submitted petitions to overturn the governor’s election.

its applications were dismissed by the Tribunal, but the opposition parties and its candidates took the case to the Appeal Court.

The court upheld the Tribunal’s verdict and proclaimed PDP candidate Fubara the victor of the March 18 gubernatorial elections in Rivers State, ruling on the appeal.

In response, the coalition’s spokesman Barrister Francis Nwogu released a statement on Wednesday in which he said the Appeal Court’s ruling proved Fubara’s legitimacy as an elected representative of Rivers State.

The triumph, according to Nwogu, is proof of the governor’s perseverance, foresight, and loyalty to the people of Rivers State.

According to the statement, the Rivers State Elections Petition Tribunal has been given credibility as a result of this judgment, which also benefited Fubara. We value the thoroughness with which the judiciary reached this decision.

This confirmation of victory shows that our country’s justice system has progressed to a stage where it can be relied upon and trusted.

Regardless of the effort to sway them, the justices maintained their independence. Even the use of extortion, intimidation, and a campaign of slander by some strong forces was unsuccessful because the judiciary has emerged as the ordinary man’s last hope today.
