On the upcoming re-run election for the Kunchi/Tsanyawa state assembly seat, the command of the Kano State Police has admonished the political parties to adhere rigidly to the specified electoral rules.
While meeting with party leaders and other interested parties at the Police Officers’ Mess in Bompai-Kano in the days leading up to the re-run election, State Commissioner of Police Mohammed Usaini Gumel issued the warning.
CP Gumel has pledged sufficient security forces to guarantee the integrity of the voting process.
He issued a stern warning that the legislation would be met with severe consequences for anyone caught attempting to obstruct the election.
Recall that the ten (10) polling units had their elections deemed inconclusive by the court of appeal, which therefore ordered a repeat.
According to Amb. Zango Abdu, the Kano State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) and Chairman of the Kano State Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), all the required preparations, including personnel, resources, and infrastructure, have been made to guarantee a re-run election that is credible, fair, and free of fraud.
He went on to say that INEC is serious about holding an honest and open election.
