In light of the increased security threats facing the country and the actions of smugglers, the government of Nigeria has promised to step up its efforts to strengthen the protection of the country’s borders.
Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, minister of the interior, made the promise on Wednesday. He emphasized that his ministry’s focus has shifted to enhancing internal security through better border control and management.

Every nation’s defense is built upon a solid foundation of border security.

“We need to prioritize border management security and engage with border communities to foster understanding and cooperation,” Tunji-Ojo stated.

The statement was made at his reception of the interim report from the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Integrated Border Governance, which evaluated the security and management of Nigeria’s borders.

In an effort to raise the bar for border governance in Nigeria, the minister praised the committee for its hard work and promised to put its suggestions into action.

Noting that innovative solutions will address some of the longstanding difficulties that have plagued the frontiers, he also highlighted the essential importance of border security for Nigeria’s sovereignty and stability.

He assured the audience that the government will promptly implement the Committee’s recommendations and findings in order to beef up border security measures, after consulting with the appropriate parties.

Inter-Ministerial Committee chairman Peter Egbodo provided an overview of the committee’s main findings and suggestions.

According to Egbodo, the report’s suggestions will strengthen the nation’s boundaries and improve security.
According to him, in order to make border control measures more effective, the committee suggested integrating cutting-edge surveillance technologies like drones, satellite imaging, and improved screening processes.
