Academic Staff Union of Universities has been instrumental in getting the salaries of public university teachers that were confiscated back by the federal government.

In an interview with MISMOB, ASUU branch chairman Comrade Nobert Oyibo Eze confirmed the news. Eze works at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

“Indeed, payments have been initiated. Eze announced, “Some of our lecturers have received two months’ payments out of the outstanding eight months’ withheld salary,” but, he himself has not yet received his.

According to another professor who spoke with MISMOB, the federal government began paying on Sunday as well.

Out of the eight months owed him, he certified that two months’ pay have been paid.

You may remember that in October 2023, President Bola Tinubu Tinubu authorized the release of four of the eight months’ worth of pay that had been withheld by ASUU.

In 2022, when ASUU went on an eight-month strike, former president Muhammadu Buhari used the “No Work, No Pay policy” to punish the union.
