In a unanimous vote, the House of Representatives has praised the Nigerian national soccer team, the Super Eagles, for their fifth consecutive silver medal at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The House of Representatives is celebrating the entire team and coaching staff for their energetic performance in Côte d’Ivoire, according to a statement released on Monday by House spokesman Rep. Akin Rotimi (APC-Ekiti state).
He went on to say that the lawmakers are overjoyed with the team’s captain, William Ekong, who was named “Man of the Competition” for his outstanding performance.
It was a close call for the AFCON title, but the Super Eagles were deserving winners based on their performance throughout the tournament.
Regardless, they have demonstrated that Nigeria is still Africa’s undisputed sporting and otherpowerhouse.
As a nation, Nigerians proved during the tournament that we are capable of great things. The Speaker assured the delegation that Nigerians are proud of them.
In addition to the many talented athletes in the nation, Rotimi said that the success of the Super Eagles would motivate Nigerians in other fields to give their all for their nation.
He complimented the Super Eagles for their impressive achievement and added that the country has become more united as a result.
