Herbert Wigwe’s death has been characterized by Dauda Lawal, governor of Zamfara state, as a significant setback for the Nigerian banking sector.

Wigwe, his wife, and their son were all killed in a helicopter crash in California, USA, not far from the Nevada line.

Sulaiman Bala Idris, the governor’s spokesperson, sent a statement from Gusau on Sunday in which Governor Lawal conveyed his condolences for the loss of Wigwe and his family.

In his opinion, the business sector in the country and across Africa mourned Wigwe’s passing just as much as his loved ones did.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of a friend who had significant impact on Nigeria’s banking sector.

Herbert Wigwe, who passed away recently, was a relentless worker whose impact on Nigeria’s banking business was immeasurable.

Both his close professional group and the larger business community were touched by his substantial and far-reaching contributions.

Since my days in the banking business, I have maintained a personal relationship with the late Wigwe.

I pray that God would give Wigwe’s loved ones the strength they need to deal with this devastating loss. “His memory will live on,” he declared.
