The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has reacted to erroneous allegations suggesting the withdrawal of Sector 4 Niger from the body.
According to a statement sent by the MNJTF’s Chief Military Public Information Officer in Ndjamena, Chad, Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi on Sunday, the rumors are unfounded and undocumented.
The mission of the MNJTF is to restore peace and stability to areas where terrorist attacks by Boko Haram and other organizations have caused fear and insecurity.
This mandate would not be possible without the assistance of member countries like Niger. In this statement, we wish to stress that Niger has never officially announced its intention to leave the MNJTF.
The MNJTF has issued a warning, saying that such insinuations are harmful to the region’s fight against terrorism and insecurity as a whole, and urging the media and the public to double-check their facts with reliable sources.
The MNJTF “emphasizes the importance of accurate reporting to maintain public trust and confidence in our collective efforts” to “promote peace, security, and stability in the region.”
