The Nigerian Senate has called on the country’s federal government to mediate the crisis between Israel and Hamas.

A motion headed “Urgent Need to Call for Ceasefire on the Ongoing Conflict Between Israel and Hamas” was adopted in the plenary on Tuesday, sponsored by senators Adamu Alero (PDP, Kebbi) and Sumalia Kawu (NNPP, Kano) and co-sponsored by 43 others.

Alero, who proposed the motion, argued that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been going on for more than a century.

We should join the chorus of nations that support a two-state solution. Let the bloodshed end, he said, and only then would the international community begin serious talks toward a lasting two-state agreement.
