United Nigeria Airlines Flight NUA0504 landed at Asaba International Airport in Delta State on Sunday. The flight originated from Lagos’s Murtala Muhammed Airport and was bound for Abuja.

Poor destination weather in the nation’s capital was blamed for the unexpected turn of events, which passengers found alarming.

One of the passengers, @dawisu, who took to his verified X handle to criticize the airline, stated that, despite knowing that the flight was diverted, the cabin crew announced that they were arriving in Abuja.

To go to Asaba, we first flew to Abuja and then took a connecting flight. We are about to land at Abuja Airport, they said. Then, a sudden explosion! Our group is looking at Asaba Airport. United Nigeria Airline is just an ordinary airline,” he remarked.

As a result, the airline’s Head of Corporate Communications, Achilleu-Chud Uchegbu, published a statement explaining that the initial announcement was a mistake.

His account suggests the plane’s pilot was advised on the detour and was aware of it.

However, the cabin crew issued a misleading announcement upon successfully touching down in Asaba, leading to confusion for the passengers.

He did, however, report that the plane had made a safe landing in Abuja after the weather there cleared up.
