2023 Dart Center Ochberg Fellowship for Mid-Career Journalists Applications for the 2023 Ochberg Fellowship program are now being accepted. The Dart Center Ochberg Fellowship is a one-of-a-kind seminar program for senior and mid-career journalists who want to learn more about emotional trauma and psychological injury, as well as better their reporting on violence, war, and tragedy.
The Ochberg Fellowships, Dart Center’s flagship worldwide program, is a one-of-a-kind conference that brings together journalists from around the world for a week of seminars and talks to enhance their knowledge of trauma and better coverage of violence, war, and tragedy.
The Ochberg Fellowships have funded over 200 journalists from 25 countries since 1999. Frank Ochberg, M.D., clinical professor of psychiatry at UCLA, was honored with the name.

Briefings by prominent interdisciplinary experts in the trauma and mental health fields are part of the fellowship program, as are conversations with journalist colleagues about issues of ethics, craft, and other aspects of professional practice, as well as other opportunities for intellectual engagement and peer learning.
The Dart Center’s Advantages Ochberg Scholarship
Fellows undergo a week-long intensive seminar program at Columbia University in New York City.
Briefings by notable interdisciplinary specialists in the trauma and mental health professions; conversations with journalist colleagues on problems of ethics, craft, and practice; and a variety of additional chances for intellectual engagement and practice are among the program’s activities.

The Dart Center launched the Fellowship in 1999 in collaboration with the International Society for Traumatic Stress Research. The fellowship is named after Frank Ochberg, M.D., a pioneer in trauma research.
Benefits
The Ochberg Fellowship covers round-trip airfare, 7 nights of housing, meals, and participation-related expenditures such as ground transportation and travel insurance.
Health insurance, additional nights of lodging beyond the Fellowship’s term, or ground transportation in fellows’ home cities are not covered by the program.
The Fellowship program will be hosted at Columbia University in New York City from July 21-27, 2023. If we are forced to discontinue the program due to public health concerns, all selected fellows for 2023 will be postponed until 2024.
