The decision by the Appeal Court to uphold the election of Siminalayi Fubara as Governor of Rivers State has been applauded by a coalition of one hundred pro-democracy parties.

As previously reported by MISMOB, the court’s unanimous verdict on Tuesday affirmed the Rivers State Governorship Election Tribunal’s decision to reject the governor’s four individual challenges.

A number of political figures, including APC Tonye Cole, LP Beatrice Itubo, APM Innocent Ekwu, and Accord Party Lulu Briggs Dumo, had petitioned to have the governor’s election declared null and void.

Even when the Tribunal denied their requests, the candidates and opposition parties continued to pursue the case before the Appeal Court.

The court upheld the Tribunal’s verdict and proclaimed PDP candidate Fubara the victor of the March 18 gubernatorial elections in Rivers State, ruling on the appeal.

Barrister Francis Nwogu, a spokesman for the alliance, published a statement on Wednesday in which he responded to the ruling by the Appeal Court, stating that it proved Fubara was duly elected by the Rivers State people.

The triumph, according to Nwogu, is proof of the governor’s perseverance, foresight, and loyalty to the people of Rivers State.

According to the statement, the Rivers State Elections Petition Tribunal has been given credibility as a result of this judgment, which also benefited Fubara. We value the thoroughness with which the judiciary reached this decision.

We can trust and rely on our country’s judicial system now that this triumph has been confirmed.

No matter how much pressure was put on the justices, they remained unwavering. Judgment has emerged as the average man’s final resort, even when great forces resorted to blackmail, intimidation, and a campaign of slander, none of which succeeded.
