Former President Muhammadu Buhari never begged his successor, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, not to conduct an investigation into former government personnel.

According to Garba Shehu, Buhari’s spokesman.

He was responding to rumors on social media that when Buhari and Tinubu met recently in London, his principal asked that his cabinet members not be investigated.

Shehu, in a statement headlined “What Buhari didn’t say to President Tinubu,” described the claim as false, saying:

“According to social media, former President Muhammadu Buhari has asked his successor, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, not to investigate some former officials of his government.”

“It is a forgery; let us not discuss it or give it any energy or publicity.” This is simply false information.

“Fortunately, no one other than the two leaders were present in the room where they met, so no one was present to report their conversation.”

“To the greatest extent possible, the former President wishes to remain out of the spotlight so as not to distract the new administration.” He chose to return to Daura in the hopes of finding the peace and quiet he desired for himself, but after seeing that this was not the case, with tourists pouring in morning, noon, and night, he relocated to a more remote location.

“It is still his wish that he be allowed to rest, and that the Tinubu administration be given the right environment to work on fulfilling the promises they made.”

Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor Godwin Emefiele and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) head Abdulrasheed Bawa, both of whom served under Buhari’s administration, are presently detained on allegations of abuse of authority.
