I was astounded to find that an overseas student can stay in Germany for three months with a student visa. You will almost probably need to apply for a study permit within that time frame. You can also receive a two-year renewable permit, which can be extended if your studies require it.

WHERE CAN I APPLY?
This is simple, just as you contacted an embassy the previous time you wished to travel outside your country. The first step in applying for a Germany student visa is to contact the German consulate.

WHAT KIND OF GERMAN STUDENT VISA DO I REQUIRE?
Schengen Visa: If your studies will last more than three months, you will need a Schengen visa. Your German student visa application can take up to 25 days to be processed. The processing period varies according on the country and German embassy where you apply.

It is important to note that if you arrive in Germany on a German citizen visa, you must extend your stay by obtaining a German residency permit for studies, which you can obtain by contacting the Foreigner’s Office.

DOCUMENTS FOR STUDENT VISA APPLICATION IN GERMANY
You can apply for a prospective Germany student visa and then convert it to a study permit once you arrive.

Germany. The following are the documents you will require:

Valid proof of private or governmental health insurance.
Your institution’s enrollment certificate.
Financial evidence.
Passport must be valid.

If you have a current visa, bring it with you.
Health certification (if need be)
Your lease agreement (if relevant)
A letter of commitment, as well as proof of your parents’ income records and financial holdings. (If appropriate)

You will also require a “Verpflichtungserklärung” from a German resident. This letter is presented to the alien registration office by the German citizen who will reimburse your expenses throughout your study. (If appropriate)

Please keep in mind that a tourist visa cannot be converted into a student visa. The following documents are required to apply for a German national visa:

National visa application form, completed and signed.
A valid international passport is required.
Your passport photocopies (up to 2).
Birth certificate.
Marriage license. If you’re married.

Birth certificate for the child. (If you have children).
Photographs taken recently in the style of a passport. (up to 3).
Photocopies of prior German residency documents. (If appropriate).

Formerly had a Schengen visa.
Formerly residing in Germany permit.

FINANCIAL CONSEQUENCES
Germany’s strict policy mandates that you demonstrate that you have adequate money to support yourself before beginning your education.

And one way to demonstrate this is to set aside 10,236 Euros for a year (Refer to our post on Germany Free Tuition Studies for details on that).

You will be required to produce a “Finanzierungsnachweis,” or proof of financial resources, while applying for a Germany Student Visa.

The number of visa applications denied by German missions in 2019 is estimated to be around 268.856, with an alarming total of 241.796 rejected in 2018.

You should use a blocked account as proof of financial resources to increase your chances of receiving your student visa.
