In the March 18 House of Assembly election between the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Hon. Solomon Akpulonu and the Labour Party’s (LP) Mr. Peter Azubuike, the petition was denied by the Lagos Court of Appeal.
Solomon Akpulonu was re-elected to represent the Obingwa East seat in the Abia State House of Assembly on Thursday by the Appeal Court, which affirmed his victory.
The electoral petition tribunal in Umuahia had already affirmed Akpulonu’s victory.
The candidate for the Labour Party, however, went to the court of appeals because he was dissatisfied with the decision.
In a unanimous decision handed down by a three-man panel, the Appeal Court determined that the petitioner was unable to establish that the election was tainted by excessive voting and failure to adhere to the Electoral Act.
As a result, Akpulonu said in his response that the people’s mandate had been protected, and he dedicated the ruling to them and to democracy.
