On Tuesday, employees of the Imo State Civil Service demonstrated against the alleged assault of Unegbu Chimaobi, who was performing his lawful duties in the office when he was attacked by Precious Izuogu, the son of Lady Rosemary Izuogu, the chairperson of the Local Government Service Commission.
Placards reading “Enough Is Enough,” “Civil Servants Are Not Slaves,” “We Demand Justice,” etc. were carried by the mostly information officers as they marched from the Local Government Commission Office to the Head of Service office in the state secretariat in Owerri.
They criticized what they believed was ‘regular battering’ of state servants by the same Precious Izuogu.
Mrs. Bibian Okere, speaking on behalf of others, pleaded with the Head of Service to investigate and bring justice to Chimaobi Unegbu.
Barr. Raymond Ucheoma responded by thanking the staff and informing the upset officers that Unegbu had been brought to the hospital for treatment and had come to present himself to him (Head of Service).
He also assured them that the administration would not take their interests and welfare for granted because of the position they held.
