Some Ondo State elders and Afenifere leader Pa Reuben Fasoranti have pleaded with President Bola Tinubu to intercede in the political conflict between Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and his deputy, Aiyedatiwa.

Fasoranti, who was leading other elder statesmen under the auspices of Ondo State Elders and Leaders, said that the political issue, and the governor’s absence in particular, has been impacting the state’s ability to run effectively.

After an urgent meeting in Akure, the state capital, the Afenifere leader and secretary, Bakitta Bello, issued a communiqué claiming that some individuals had taken over the state’s government.

The elders also insisted that the development would undoubtedly impact the planning of the 2024 budget if it wasn’t addressed soon.

The older statesmen complained that the state has been absent from important national events because of the crisis, and that the civil service has no clear direction.

“The Elders also call on the state and national leadership of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, to provide the necessary guide to those in government and ensure discipline among their fold,” reads part of the declaration.

To prevent the imminent breakdown of law and order in Ondo State, “His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” is fervently urged to intervene and end the current constitutional crisis in the state.
