“I lost my marriage for doing my job,” says Akin Olateru, the immediate former Director-General of the Nigerians Safety Investigation Bureau, NSIB.

Olateru made the announcement on Monday during a brief hand-over ceremony to Mr. Alex Badeh, Jnr., the new director general, saying that the position was extremely challenging and that he did not envy the newcomer.

In January 2017, Olateru was appointed as Commissioner of the now-defunct Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), which has evolved into NSIB and now has the authority to examine accidents involving land, sea, air, and rail transportation.

Just last week, President Bola Tinubu fired him and promptly nominated Badeh to take his position.

Olateru, who stated at the hand-over ceremony that he was leaving NSIB in better shape than when he arrived, blamed his marriage on the sacrifices he had to make for the company.
