Nine disgruntled PDP candidates in Edo State’s governorship primary on February 22, 2024, have threatened legal action against the party unless their complaints are resolved.

Nine candidates, according to the MISMOB, skipped out on both the February 4 ward congress and yesterday’s February 10 local delegates congress, which included all 192 wards and 17 LGAs in the state.

An reported abduction of electoral officials en route to the local government for the ward delegates’ congress caused the exercise to be canceled in Etsako Central Local Government Area, hence the congress did not take place there.

According to MISMOB, the nine candidates for governor who felt wronged had gone to the party’s appeal panel to voice their disapproval of the people chosen to lead the state’s ward delegates congress.

Philip Shaibu, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, Anselm Ojezua, Felix Akhabue, Martin Uhomoibhi, Hajia Hadizat Umoru, Omosede Igbinedion, Earl Osaro Onaiwu, and Arthur Esene are the candidates for governor who are claiming wrongdoing.

The unhappy aspirants’ spokesperson, Aslem Ojezua, explained in an interview that they chose not to participate in the local government congress since it was run using items from the ward congress.

In an effort to rectify the injustice done by the Congress Electoral Committee, which is headed by Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, Ojezua stated that they had contacted the appeal panel established by the party’s national leadership.

He claims that you can’t fix a bad foundation and then try to build on top of it.

Following the party machinery is our plan, and we will keep reminding them of the risks associated with their level of hubris and carelessness if they do not change.

We are now utilizing the party’s internal dispute resolution procedure, but we will pursue all available options. Even though the party has not replied, we are taking advantage of the situation and will do all we can.

We shall pursue all available options if the party ultimately disregards our requests. “We can only resort to legal action to safeguard our rights after we have exhausted all other options,” he stated.

Stay calm, he pleaded with their fans and party members, promising that they will know who to punish for the party’s defeat in Edo State when the time comes.
