The Inspector General of Police and the Minister of Police Affairs have been given the responsibility to improve the country’s security by the Joint Committee on Police Affairs of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
While defending the 2024 budget in Abuja, the committee—co-chaired by Senator Abdulhamid Madori and Representative Abubakar Yalleman—made this statement.
The committee emphasized that the foremost duty of every government is to ensure the safety of its citizens and their property, emphasizing the necessity for the Nigeria Police to strengthen their forces.
Yalleman stated that the NASS will take all required steps to guarantee that the Nigeria Police were adequately equipped and trained to enhance their performance.
“Our police force and all supporting institutions will be able to function as effectively and efficiently as possible,” he promised, guaranteeing that the budget would be fairly balanced.
Sen. Ibrahim Gaidam, who is in charge of police affairs, has stated that the government is collaborating with law enforcement and other agencies to guarantee that they carry out their responsibilities to maintain internal security. Gaidam has also mentioned that insufficient money is a big issue for the police.
In a same vein, Inspector General Kayode Egbetokun claimed that the Nigeria Police were determined to permanently alter the storyline while he was in charge.
He stated their hope for a police force that could effectively combat crime in all of the country’s varied neighborhoods.
