Inspector General Kayode Egbetokun has requested probes into the outbreaks of violence in the governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states on November 11.
The order was issued in a statement released by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, on Tuesday in Abuja.
Under the direction of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Criminal inquiry Department, the IGP has ordered all officers assigned to the Electoral Offences Desk to launch an inquiry.
During the elections, Egbetokun praised the efforts of other security personnel for their assistance to the Nigeria Police Force.
He said the devotion and due diligence demonstrated by the security operatives in policing the voting process were extremely productive and laudable.
Despite early danger assessments and predicted problems from various sides, Egbetokun claimed the polling process in the three states was smooth.
He praised the extraordinary work of the security forces in keeping the peace, protecting the integrity of the voting process, and keeping the public secure.
