Following a brief illness, Chief Newton Agbofodo, the controversial leader of the Ekpan village in the Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, who was sentenced to death in 2021, has reportedly passed away at Park Lane Hospital in Enugu, Enugu State.

Sunday Oyakhire, the state of Delta’s deputy comptroller of prisons, corroborated the story during a phone conversation with a MISMOB reporter in Warri.

According to DCP Oyakhire, the deceased passed away at a hospital, not a prison.

Park Lane Teaching Hospital in Enugu State is where he passed away, he said. He spent nearly two days in the hospital due to his illness before passing away. The hospital’s mortuary is where he remains at this day.

Former Ekpan community Unuevworo (Prime Minister) Newton Agbofodo was charged in court for charges bordering on murder after his arrest on June 17, 2016.

He faced four charges against him, including murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and other related offenses.

In 2021, he was sentenced to death by hanging after being found guilty of all count counts in Asaba’s Delta State High Court 4.
