‘Beyond Borders’ seeks applications from students worldwide who are studying borders and bordering phenomena in various parts of the world. The Call for Scholarship Applications 2023 is open and focuses on “Borders, Migration and Knowledge.
BEYOND BORDERS promotes research on borders and boundaries in the past and now. It encourages multidisciplinary collaboration in the social sciences and humanities.
Beyond Borders Scholarship Eligibility Criteria: Any applications from Ph.D. students worldwide investigating borders and bordering phenomena in various locations of the world are highly encouraged.
Support is available for both empirical studies based on extensive fieldwork and initiatives oriented on theoretical thinking. New and difficult research ideas, as well as comparative approaches, are encouraged.

A monthly living allowance of € 1,200 is provided.
Development of a Dissertation Proposal Workshop
Ph.D. Scholarships are available for Ph.D. students enrolled in Ph.D. programs or admitted to an individual Ph.D. scheme.
A monthly living allowance of € 1,400 is provided.
Dissertation completion at the annual students’ conference Scholarships are available for advanced Ph.D. students.
