Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide’s youth wing has issued a rallying cry to all political players in Enugu State, urging them to put aside their differences and unite for the benefit of the state’s growth and unity.

This was in response to Friday’s ruling by the Supreme Court, which upheld Governor Peter Mbah’s victory, according to the leading Igbo socio-cultural organization.

The National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, expressed the group’s pain at the prolonged and costly court battle over the Enugu guber election in a statement released to the media on Sunday.

According to Okwu, the youths of the Ohanaeze movement had pleaded with Barr Chijioke Edeoga, the candidate for governor from the Labour Party, not to take Mbah to court. “When Governor Mbah recorded victories in both the Tribunal and at the Appeal Court, we also urged him not to push the matter further,” Edeoga said.

Given the high stakes and potential financial drain on Nigeria’s already-struggling government, we felt compelled to make this request.

But now that the LP candidate has done everything by the book, we beg him to take the governor up on his offer of fellowship.

We think now is the time for him to listen to the governor’s clarion appeal for the state’s overall interest, as this is not the first time he and other opposition members have been invited to join him in bringing the state forward.

“The advancement and development of Enugu should be of paramount importance to any lover of the state; nobody can be governor at the same time.”

With “every obstacle and distractions have been removed,” the youth president of Ohanaeze encouraged the governor to devote his whole attention to providing good dividends to the people of Enugu State.
