David Umahi, minister of works, has announced that a meeting has been called to discuss the increasing cost of cement with important cement manufacturers.

He was concerned that, despite cement makers’ massive patronage from road and construction constructors, the product’s price was increasing at an exorbitant rate.

The meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 19, 2024, in the Ministry’s Conference Hall in Mabushi, Abuja, according to a statement released on Saturday by the Minister’s Special Adviser (Media), Orji Uchenna Orji.

“All cement manufacturers in Nigeria have been summoned to an urgent meeting,” read the announcement.

Dangote Plc, BUA Plc, Larfarge, and others are among the invited parties.

The minister acknowledged that manufacturers face difficulties and promised to investigate; nonetheless, their research has shown a large gap between the ex-factory price and the market price.

He said they should investigate the matter and others in order to come out with a united front.
